You 100% on that statement, im wouldnt think you were right. A picker on site can but ive not heard that a moble vehicle based one can.

Again about the mot im thinking your wrong about that too, but i dont know! I would have thought that any road going vehicle needs and mot thats why they carry dumpers etc on trucks.

Theres a big difference between a self propelled boom (which is allowed to run on red deisel) and a transit van with a boom on the back which is a road going vehicle and therefore liable for road tax, mot's and not allowed to run on red deisel.

going of what I read on the auto trader?

http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/plant/advert+search/N-0,Ne-7-8-27-64-133-146/advert.action?R=200810108981868&distance=171&postcode=W1F+9NB&channel=PLANT&make=&model=&min_pr=&max_pr=&max_mileage=

but would seem to be much more complex than that

Quote
8.12 Mobile cranes

A vehicle in this category must be designed and constructed as a mobile crane which:

(a) is used on public roads only as a crane in connection with work carried on at a site in the immediate vicinity or for the purpose of proceeding to and from the place where it is to be used,

(b) when so proceeding does not carry any load except such as is necessary for its propulsion or the operation of built-in lifting apparatus, and

(c) has a revenue weight exceeding 3,500 kilograms.

The category does not include load carrying vehicles such as van-mounted access platforms.

In the case of articulated vehicles, it is the towing vehicle and not the crane itself, that would be using the red diesel and hence no red diesel entitlement exists. Trailer-mounted equipment drawing its fuel from a tank separate to that used by the towing vehicle may use red diesel, but the towing vehicle itself has no red diesel entitlement.

Page 6 of this pdf says you cannot use red deisel on vehicle mounted platforms.

The pdf attached shows a list of vehicles exempt, i dont think that includes van mounted platforms either.

thats where my quotes from however "van" is not defined? both iveco daily's & cargo will be over the 3500kg?

however RFL + insurance for wagon are likely to be pricey?

I think it does as a vehicle thats capable of carrying good also, whereas a mobile crane cannot carry goods also.
