I have just discovered that Transit Connects are restricted to goods vehicle speeds. The only vans permitted to drive at the same speeds as cars are 'car derived' vans and this doesn't include Connects. Panel vans are also restricted to goods vehicle speeds, irrespective of the vans weight or size.

... I wonder if all Transit Connect drivers know about this?

Not arf. I have a 18' Motorhome that weighs much more than any Transit, but for speed regulations it is classed as a car.
