first check it's not muted, then in device manager expand the sound tab and look for a yellow marker (? I think) if so then there is a problem with the device. Right click it to help identify what it is. Download this
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html this will tell you exactly what card you have, then update from manf site.

Ive done the belarc thing and according to that there's no sound card, dont know if thats because Ive deleted the driver?


if not, tried the Manufacturer website.

Ive been to their site, but I dont know what Im looking for.

Another piece of software is Lavalys Everest, but as with Belarc you need to know what you're looking for.

Easiest and most reliable way to tell what you have is whip the side off the PC, I'd 99.9% be sure you have onboard sound so nothe down the motherboard details and get the drivers for that.

Right if you can back up the stuff you have saved there use the recovery discs and return it to new.

How old is this machine anyway?

A year or two, I cant remember which, Im not taking the side off as its got a 5 year RTB guarantee anyway so the shop can sort it out.

Told you the patch is a pisser for some. You got a athelon chipset, they are getting hit the worst.
