To be brief and play along. A program about our armed forces and ancillaries, Giving awards for some outstanding performances.
Not really needed, but as I see it a way of showing our friends ( Well i have a few serving and a son mad to and probably now going to Sandhurst). That the general public do love our soldiers/navy/airforce. If i missed anyone out I`m sorry.
Your obviously a non military minded person, we all have our cross to carry.

My views are mine, like them or not most often they are right. When they are wrong, you did not read the answer correctly.

My personal view: The programme is just another where tu'penny bit 'stars' like to think they are doing their bit when in all they are doing is trying to raise their own profile.
IMHO most of HM Forces find these sort of things anathema to them.
My view (I know it won't be popular, but hey ho) ...... Our armed forces in WW1 and WW2 were heroes because for most of them they were forced into fighting and/or they were giving their lives for the protection of our country, but the present armed forces personel are fighting because they want to do it and they enjoy the adrenalin rush so I don't really see what is so heroic about it.
-------------------------------
Whether you think you can or you think you can't ....... You are right
there are some acts of heroism which are above and beyond what the normal adrenalin junkie aims to achieve - I didn't watch last night because I agree with cubit (which I think is a bit unusual) that its farily jazzed up to allow some B listers raise their profile - but last night is an attempt to highlight those heroic moments. The chances are 90% of the guys/girls were told "you will go up on stage and you will smile" but probably under duress.
YESYES (but I doulbt this is the only reason for joining upthere are some acts of heroism which are above and beyond what the normal adrenalin junkie aims to achieve - I didn't watch last night because I agree with cubit (which I think is a bit unusual) that its farily jazzed up to allow some B listers raise their profile - but last night is an attempt to highlight those heroic moments. Scary now, i agree with you. Too many people misuse the words Hero, heroism etc Footballers, pop singers etc spring to mind!!
It's a fine line between 'doing what's right'. 'sense of duty'. and plain old 'madness'.- Acts of heroism fall somewhere between these.
In any walk of life there are the usual plodders, the armed forces are no diffferent. Difference is, even their majority of plodders will raise their game when it matters.
However, i find it somewhat puzzling when people dismiss the efforts of the Armed Forces when these same people have not been on the wrong end of a barrel/situation etc.
