With all the recent news regarding the DNA database, just out of interest I wondered what everyones thoughts were regarding this subject?

I personally would submit my DNA in a heartbeat, I have no intention of committing any crimes (other than the occasionally speeding)  so I have no reason to worry about my DNA being kept.

So why should anyone else be worried about their DNA being kept unless they are thinking about committing crimes?

My thoughts are lets have a worldwide database, criminals will be identified quicker preventing them from committing more crimes, and crimes will be solved quicker.  And lets not forget innocent people will be eliminated quicker.

I thought about adding a pole but lets just see how the thread goes first

Saw this today. As an example an convicted speeder  ( your example) would have DNA taken. Yet under "human rights" a spent sentence of sexual nature would not allow a sample under the once tried system. So "ex" offenders now released would not be required to give a sample. Wrong but that is the do good society for you.

Not bothered, if it would cut violent crimes down then all for it, buts then theres the police who cant even manage a URN application right, would i trust them with this power ? only if it was manage and overseen by a proffesional department outside the police.

DNA should be store on your passport so you yourself have a record of it just in case, been on the news a few times where they have mixed things up before now.

I do have some concerns ...... because I think some of the powers that be in this country are more crooked than the crims.

.... but I think a dna database would be far more worthwhile than the id cards they're introducing

Read todays news on expenses then, lol
that's the problem (IMO) they loose or can't network the info they currently have so why use a billion more of our hard dodged tax money to colate more?

Totally disagree with it.
Yes, it may help them resolve the ocassional crime but niether the Government nor the Dibble can be trusted to run a bath, let alone something so sensitive as this.

It's as daft as the idea that ID cards prevent Terrorism.

I split this topic as it had gone completely off topic, the Grandad thread has been moved to any other business as it seemed more relevant there
