Im looking at changing the van and the only real choice for various reasons is another Astra. If anyone else here has one Im interested to know what engine type yours is and what sort of economy you are getting - ie miles per fill up.

Cheers.

We run 3 astra 1.7 CDTi get about 400 mile per fill up £42, only vans that will fit in a multistory in manchester with ladders on top.

1.3 CDTI, £45 to fill up, approx 360 miles per tank with ladders on 380-390 without ladders

poor compaired to the old 1.7 dti, £45 to fill then approx 380 per tank with ladders and just a shade over 400 without

Only an astra will fit in my garage with the ladders on, and there's also the 70mph thing for CDVs. At the moment only south wales police really enforce it (apparently) but that could change at any time.

We run 3 astra 1.7 TDi get about 400 mile per fill up £42

Thats pretty much the same as Im getting from mine.

Cheers for that, Ive been wondering about the 1.3 CDTi but cant see the point in it if fuel economy is no better than a 1.7. How does it drive compared to your old 1.7?

Thats a good reason not to get another, waste of space where you could keep all sorts of junk. You must be the only person i know who actually uses a garage for keeping a vehicle in.
Besides you can always reverse right up to the door with a big van and no one will be able to get in the garage to steal your junk.
The future isnt garlic bread, its junk and im way ahead  yes 1eye

Nah, Ive got the bespoke shed for the junk, anyway Ive always put the van away on a night and with the electric door its easier than parking the van then going in the front door, IYSWIM.

Cheers for that, Ive been wondering about the 1.3 CDTi but cant see the point in it if fuel economy is no better than a 1.7. How does it drive compared to your old 1.7?

Sluggish is probably best way to describe it, unless it's approaching 2k revs (where the turbo kicks in) there's no life in the engine at all. After 2k it revs just as well as the 1.7 did, it pulls nicely and has much tighter steering and suspension. brakes and clutch are very good but I find the 6 speed gearbox notchy and clonky.

Ladders / roof rack, steps, boot full of batts, tools, stock and rest of the crap i carry in the car easily killed the economy on the 1.3. I suppose it's ok if you drive about with an empty car....
I've yet to drive the new shape 1.7cdti so can't really comment on that one yet.
