Can anyone recommend a good web hosting company. We are at present with Legend who were bought out by Thus who also own Demon.

Anyway we haven't been able to change anything on the site for over a month, been on to tech support (India) and they still haven't sorted anything, so I asked them 7 days ago to delete the whole site and leave an empty folder because we have a new site to upload and still no progress.

Are there any problems with moving hosting companies?, I presume our e-mail addresses will be part of any new package?

I recently moved from Ideal to freeola and it would of gone really smoothly had ideal not given the wrong email address to the transfer company in Australia.

I also have a site with supernames and they are quite good too, the email options are really good with supernames. I would recommend both providers freeola have uk tech support till about 19.00 which is a bonus

Idaq has 24/7 uk tech support, all speak the queens english too!

Never had a problem with freeola used them since they started, only draw back is if you want your web designer to work on your website they have to come to your pc as you can only upload from a pc connected by there broadband unless you pay for there freedom tariff, on a plus it means nobody can hack your website, we get unlimited web space and as many email address per domain we want.

I must have the freedom then cus me and John Wakefield can upload, I have all bar one on freeola

If you're at all IT savy get your own VPS server and enjoy the independence.

Not a great idea IMO. Type our ip and you see we have this feature as a "as well as" option. We outsourse Zen. Not going to recommend them as i know they aint cheap but i use my own bandwidth for more useful stuff.

JUst looked at freeola, its says unlimited webspace but no mention of monthly usage, a few of the hosting companies ive looked at have a limit, is freeola's unlimited?

Ive not a clue what sort of monthly usage id need, so unlimited would seem a good option.

Another thing, they say if i transfer my domain name renewal or whatever through them for 3 quid a year they will give me free hosting, how do they make that pay??

What's involved in the diy option, we have a 20meg cable line at the moment which is being upgraded to 50meg by the end of the year.

Our new site is more for a 'web presence' and for our customers to access forms etc. Not too bothered about getting work from it, the main thing is our e-mails

We have plenty of spare machines and we run SBS2003 R2.

Why not, what's wrong witrh renting your own dedicated or vps? That's all the majority of hosting companies are doing.

diy wise you need to ensure you can first and its not against your isp rules. Also check they dont block ports, get a decent router and a server... done.

Oh i see your talking about renting virtual space on some other platform not on your own systems. Sure i agree with that.
