This is a cellar door to a pub we have intruder and fire in.
It seems a customer had a ciggie and when he dropped it the butt wedged in-between the frame and door (which is also steel sheeted).
I looked in the logs and they left at 23.35, the fire detection went at 01:15 and you could then see the fire brigade in the building at 01:25.

Only damage to the hatch is what you can see, all detectors and cables are fine.

Most roller shutters we do are either series or seperate circuits in case of jacking up either side...

They have to be on the same zone as opening one door can't generate a confirmed.

I didn't say it was to generate a confirmed - I said it was to make sure you got an activation from jacking up either side.  The sites which spring to mind are Audio Verified anyway.

It's still alive and well but only used on higher risk jobs I think, electrical retailers for example.

Heh, one in the eye for the smoking ban. Wink

Update, went back today and there was a shiney new steel hatch and frame fitted. I was there to refit the contacts.

As we went into the cellar storage area and walked under the hatch i immediately noticed something strange, i said to the assistant manager how do you lock these then?

He looked at them for several minutes, scratched his head and said he didn't know!

Turns out there were no locks fitted so all his stock was vulnerable and would have only generated a unconfirmed. I had to refuse to fit the contacts to a "door" that had no locking facility.

I`ll be there tomorrow no doubt as he left a note for his manager to ring the installers and get them back.

How the hell can you fit doors, hatch flaps wotever and not fit any locks?Huh?Huh?

cheers
