Not trying to defend the actions of Direct Response, no way you could defend the actions shown on Watchdog - over the years there have been a number of firms operating in the same way. IMO a good reason for a potential customer to go to a small company (no sales force and call centre staff on commission) and checkout recommendations from other satisfied clients as well as checking out 'approval'. As security has such a low profile in the UK it isn't going to change anytime soon unfortunately - if inspectoratres spent more cash on educating the public than paying inflated wages, building IT departments and going to exhibitions it could change.

These programmes really f**k me off.
We have named and shamed them! Big bloody deal!
EG. the electrical firm.
They have obtained money by lying, taken stickers off of a fuseboard etc and then got sprung. Bit of shouting and camera pushing and there off, money in hand.
Most companies its the 5th or 6th time they have been named and shamed!
Ref Direct response. Not once did the NSI address this or did the salesman get taken to task for basically scare mongering and giving false information.
Direct response have fitted a few around here and for big money.
Ive even seen some properties with existing systems fitted and a DR system put in on top, old decoys etc still on the wall.
They can certainly sell.
RISCO's biggest customer i would guess?
And i would imagine the amount of certs they issue the NSI will want to keep them!
Amazing how these companies start up and become national installers!!?

salesmen rather than alarm men

funny, I was in a printers today and noticed the Karizma powered down, RKP sitll on wall, all PIR's still on wall - system was "upgraded" to a powermax with blank lid and one pet - yes I said pet PIR mounted flat on the wall looking no where useful really..

I have more than a few fitted in tandem with existing alarms. If it aint my or my customers kit then i have no right to interfere. Equaly i have systems on landlords building and tenant employed fools who thought it was ok to take my system over. Err No. That would be the landlords system and will remain in place long after the tennant vacates.
Ive just watched it and picked up a few sales tips LOL next sales call Ill show them my Police security pass and my new Scotland yard clearance LOL!, I cant see everyone falling for it but why do I never get called by the sort of customers that must call him? 99% of domestics I get called to do a survey want the cheapest, and they are all clever enough to see through a free alarm system for £58.00 per month

Pete I don't think these are much from people calling in, most of these come from canvassing, either by 'phone or doorstep - the elderly will often agree to anything if they are pressured enough. It's then relatives/friends who find out what's happened and kick off to trading standards ... enough complaints = Watchdog.

1st one to sell AG a system wins the fiver
