Really strange not seeing planes flying as Heathrow is about 8 miles as a crow flies.
Okay not their fault a volcano went bang, but the massive losses of tourism and industry has to be emormous.
They are now talking about another eruption. And even worse have said they knew it was going to happen 6 months ago.

WHO is now saying if you see dust to stay indoors.

Hope none of you have holidays booked, bet the insurance companies would claim act of god and ignore your claims!

BBC news saying ALL commercial UK flights are grounded ...... not so! flights from here to the Scilly Isles are flying normally, both helicopters and fixed wing..

Typical BBC, they think south east England is "all UK"

Seen Glasgow open up for a hour or so.
Most southern are grounded.

Quick chat to m8 at Northolt (RAF base) they are still flying. But watcing ash fallout carefully.

Im guessing prop aircraft/helicopters aren't as affected as they don't generate the heat that a jet engine does.

More of a intake issue I would assume.
Anything with an induction air system could be affected by airborne debris.
Look at "bird strikes" on various aircraft. Not one is invunerable.
Without looking too deep I think its is a oxygen starvation issue.

Even radar is not reliable to detect the ash in the air.
However  air defence is a priority and that is why RAF/Army are still flying.
Some tin pot state might run the risk of doing something.
We might lose a few planes or have to replace a few engines, but they are still up there.

Respect to the men and women who are doing this.

Seems to be more light aircraft up in the air, I got back to Sussex yesterday spent the day at Amberly museum on the way home lovely day, and loads of light aircraft were out. Today another lovely day Im only a few miles from Shoreham airport and again seems to be more light aircraft in the sky's than normal 

Light aircraft don't fly at the height that affects them.

But it is weird, being around or near heathrow for 90% of my life and NOT hearing planes is very strange.
