Had comments from 3 users of the Vito van when I was considering it and each one complained about lack of value, everything is an extra and costs more than for other vans - couple said engine didn't really perform as expected.

been toying with a bigger van I'd say a renault trafic was a better design than a Vito, I've seen a few black ones running around with crew window tinted out
apart from merc badge, I can no reason to pay a premuim for a "foot" hand brake & spare wheel in the load space (swb)
it you must have german a VW transporter is better than a vito

Transporter is a good option and i never even considered the Renault hmm. As for new line i wont be driving anything for a couple of month. The last of the Picaso will be going shortly and we need vans with seats to move bods around the country. Something an engineer wont mind using for PLEASURE as well as work. I sort of liked the cut of the Merc.
I was advised against the mercs by my mechanic in favour of something with the HDI engine. Direct security from Rochdale have Vitos and they have had lots of niggling problems with them, look nice but a bit of a headache i've been told. One of my customers has the transporter as HIS car, think he prefers it from the range rover his wife drives to work.

I worked for a guy years ago who also liked the cut of the mercs, problem is they are very very basic for a lot of money. I have a transporter and wouldn't waste my time looking at anything else.

Just watched a 5th gear comparison of Transort v Vito. Vito had bigger engine and more power. VW kicked its butt. Problem with Transporter is i can only see 5 seats. Do you have the sport? Sound mean but what does it do to the MPG?
The Renault has issues apparantly a m8 has one, whishes he went VW now.
face lift ones are much stronger than earlier one,
Jef do you want a "van" or biiger people carrier
seen a commerical fridge man working out of the above which looked quite cool

Car/Van Upto £20k ish and its not for me 2nd user nearly new is fine. seems im back to my old ways sending a crew up and down the UK fully loaded knocking off fire &security jobs in ridiculously low hours. Sending a service bod all across S.Wales for 4 days next week and Up to My Northern chumbs the week after straight up through Scotland. Im a sucker for RR.

regardless of the 'look' of the Vito, you sit in it not looking at it! A friend (yes I have one) has a new LWB high top Renault and has has about 4k of warranty work done on various electrical/ecu issues over the 12 months he's had it. The dealer was not very good and he never even got a loaner when it was in the workshop, he was delivering dog food in his S type for 2 weeks. VW transporter crewcab all the way imo

A tank cost £80 ish and I get around 550 miles from it. Not the sport, for me it's just a donkey that drags all my stuff from one place to the next, reliably and as cheaply as possible.

Only issue I foresee with the Korean brands would be the 'feel' of the cabin, not an issue if it's functional and reflected in the price though. (5 year warranty to boot, but often a pro rata warranty)

Rang our local sales room. Said they have never even seen one and it would be a special order. Price about £22K. So a bit of wasted effort me thinks.

I got a Trafic obviously used it when I run my own company, good workhorse. Engine was lively, had aircon, solid bulkhead, cheap to buy. Still got it but now it's a Disco van lol

Last week did Oxford, Worcestershire & Nottingham most of it was motorway with ladders and steps on the roof, loads of kit in the boot and the back seat. I got 565 miles for £56..00 worth of diesel.
Yes on a run i am getting around 40 to 50 mpg without driving like an old tw@t.
w/o digging out diesel receipts 565ml off £56 must be 50 mpg + ?

Toyota, Nissan and Honda don't seem to have a problem with their workforce.
Yes they do but not to the extent of the old militant plant (locations). The japs exspect a work indoctrination ethic and have stayed clear of certain areas. The early british design and manufacture was OK later build quality was poo. I remember being told that a ford buit in Germany was different to a ford built in the UK. Its all out now with the FOI act just how poo the UK car (and other industries) were mis managed. Most of the blame said that management was dictated to from the shop floor. The UK are overpaid and underworked

Along the same lines - i addressed a customer issue with a statement yesterday. My manager was heard to mutter on reading said statement "another jb-eye vagism"
