As you may know I treated myself to a Blackberry. It has a few apps on it including maps. Howerer it needs a subscription to run it after the iniial month of operation.
I was on Google and noticed their maps application and it works on Telephone masts not GPRS, so it is free.
Downloaded it and have palted with it for routes and local business. Its a great little app, does exactly what it says on the tin.Okay its not sat nav but its better than an A-Z in my book (sic). Type in a local business name and it gives you the address and phone number.
I gave it a challange and asked it for a walking (transit) route and a car one, both that I know well. It almost went exactly the ways I would go and that included the "shortcuts" that I would use to avoid traffic.
So if your phone can support it, it is a great free application. It might charge you for some info, but it does have that on the disclaimer/EUA. Checked mine and nothing was charged, I think in 90% of cases it is free as I said it gets its info from the masts.
Try it, it is rather good.
