We are fitting a net 2 system in about 2 weeks 4 doors readers etc on a jewelers.

The customer has now asked if we can integrate some kind of counter on the open front of the shop ( its in a large centre ) to count people into the shop.
The shop is in London he is based in Manchester and he wants to know how many people are coming through the doors per day.
Any Ideas.

James not reading the post again!

I've always just stuck a separate unit in for the counter. If the bloke wants to see the figures from his place in Manchester then I'd look at homebrew kit of some description. Should be fairly easy to make a counter that stores the numbers on a mini web server with IP connection.

I've used PIR's in shop doorways for things before now, PITA as people linger and lollipop it up. Usually it's for a chime on an open door so it gets quite annoying!

The shop has large glass doors that will open in the morning and stay open all day.
So i need some sort of beam connected to a door controler / reader type device, just logging numbers not people.

lol i did read it!

but i often do read em but dont fully understand em, i still say active beam/curtain into a counter. If it must be done via pc then id write a little app, but you would still need some means to get into the pc. You 'could' i suppose write something and count the number of say tampers on the door controller and present that in a report using sql. Might be able to do that with access if you have odbc into the db. Or give me access to the machine and ill write one.

I was thinking a PIC rather than a PC and several apps. Glad I'm not the only one over engineering the jobs!

Just to further that, the only reason it came into my head was I was looking at various PIC kits earlier and was looking at one with a webserver built in that can display stored information on a web page. Can program it to read a counter input (think it has a counter on board) and then update the internal pages. Not a ridiculous price, but not an 'out of the box solution'. Think it will just need an IR beam adding (few quid for a kit rather than Pulnix beams or anything daft) and an afternoons playing with to set it up on the bench.

http://www.icmsecurity.co.uk/ - they do people counters - used in PC Worlds & Currys.  http://www.footfall.com/default-uk.asp - are big on shopping centres, but no idea of pricing or anything like that - but I believe your customer could access the data from the internet.
